K n o w || T h y || S e l f i e

  1. 1
a person's essential being that distinguishes them from others, especially considered as the object of introspection or reflexive action.

I'm a sucker for a Selfie.

That being said though, I’d be the first to admit that it takes me a while to choose the image that ‘makes the cut'. You know, the 'one for keeps.'The 'one for the 'Big reveal ?

Forgive me for what might be a generalisation, but I’d like to think that there’s a teeny-weeny bit of truth in recognising that there are a fair few people on this 'team', and that the subs waiting over on the bench are growing by the second, too.

So many of us are abiding by the almost compulsory but not quite fully-established rules of Lé Selfie, but could we all see a few benefits from being just as critical and analytical about our inner-selves on a day-to-day basis?

I see myself among a sea of imperfect people, and make it a daily mission to perfect every and anything which has the potential to arrive somewhat close to exactly that - perfection.

I'll let you know when I pull together a successful and effective anecdote, ha-ha!

On a more serious note though, and on my daily journey towards doing so, I realise that there's a reflective attitude that must be adopted, and that a little of my critical virtual-self could serve me just as purposefully in my daily life. I too, can learn from this.

The beauty which comes with posting viral images of yourself is that it allows you quite a generous (or on the contrary, for some, unhealthy amounts of excessive) freedom to show the many dimensions of your personality, character, essence and your progress in some of the many instances of which words don’t quite suffice.

It’s an archive of the many "sides" of you, how you’re feeling and in the most logical sense – what you look like. Long ago, this was taboo, especially for women. Today, it’s commonplace. *does dance of modernity and freedom* but are people growing more concerned and compelled to depict a sense of ‘self’ that isn’t actually…anywhere…near…them...self?

Now comes the hard part. The part which, in actual fact, you could take a little more control of - both on and offline.

People will form perceptions and opinions (rightly or wrongly) about you, who you are, and what you're up to solely based upon the images you post. While to many people, it doesn't really matter, the smarter approach of acknowledging that this is a harsh and often unfair reality on the outsider looking in (at you), will answer a lot of the questions you find yourself asking yourself…about yourself.

While we seek not to live and depict a life that requires the approval of others around us, it’s worth considering the lasting impression we could leave trickling behind us in our ever-growing online archives.

No one but you will know and understand your selfie-self better than you, and both the images you post and the person in the image will effectively live forever in the virtual world. In the same breath, no one but you will know who the real you is either.

By all means, allow for your spirit to be free in regards to showing your real "self(ie)" but understand that your selfie today may not be the same selfie you would choose to reveal to the world three, five or ten years from now.

People grow and change.
People mature.
People are way more than the ‘self’ in their Selfie.

Who are you?

  1. I do believe all the concepts you've presented on your post. They're really convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too quick for newbies. May just you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thank you for the post. paypal login

  2. Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone! yahoo sign in
