Happy International Women's Day!

I had such a fun day shooting with these two beauties and the talent that is Ayokunu aka a.o media!

I thought I'd switch things up a little today, and share something a little more intimate, straight from the heart and of a topic that I feel is so important!

I'm all about building up as opposed to tearing down (I hope all my readers aren't destructive either, haha!) and so I suggested to the lovely Esther and Stacey that we have some fun shooting together to commemorate and encourage togetherness today...and always!

I know - Aren't I a soppy young so and so!?

Enjoy!

My Sister's Keeper

She holds her head-up, day to day
Ensuring all is well,
She's become an emblem of strength and power
And she's searching for a soul to tell.

She's familiar with those who went before her
Hannah, Ruth and Sarah too
But despite the examples of those who have past
She can't prepare for all she'll go through.

As a teen she'll fight conformity
And friends will come and go
Her parents and elders will offer advice
But nothing she doesn't "already know"

She'll make some temporal choices
And they'll inevitably cause her pain
A future possibly filled with mass regret
That she'd seldom live again.

It's on to secondary school - wa-hey!
She's as happy as can be
But her outgoing ways are a dimming light
From the girl we'd usually see.

This 'lady' is fast approaching College
It's time to 'be mature'
But her workload's becoming unbearable
How on earth will she endure?

She's balancing a part-time job at this point
attempting to build on her skills
but her social life and new found popularity
are prioritised way above her bills.

Sister Girl, let's weigh up your options
University's in sight
A further shot at taking control
Sending past failures to flight.

You'll get your taste of independence
You'll cook and clean for one
Just three more years with your head in the books
You'll see how far you've come.

That guy that's calling for you
That one in the year above?
The one who's already passed his exams
The one you so deeply love.

You're certain that he'll wait for you
After all, he is 'the one'
And love chooses to stick right by you
'less it dislikes what you later become.

He's changed his mind about you
Your heart is torn in two
Prince charming's no longer checking in
And it's time for a self- review.

To love again will be tedious
Or so your mind does say
your flesh is asking 'what's the point?'
Optimism says 'step this way!'

Just get through this last hurdle
I know joy seems so far
But an achievement for each failure
Will heal each of your scars.

A sigh of relief - you've made it!
Certificates in toe
It's time to sit back and assess yourself
How much have you come to know?

You've grown so much sweet lady
from that diamond in the rough
Nobody said it would be easy
A fair few warned it'd be tough.

Try not to walk so proudly
Or be afraid to share your truths
Try offering some transparency
What could you possibly lose?

The world is now your oyster
'so cliche' I hear you say
your future lies ahead of you
begin with no delay.

There'll be a partner that will honour you
and a love that thinks out loud
a set of little mini-me's
who'll strive to make you proud.

There'll be plenty of others like you
Who'll need a helping hand
Don't think you're on your own lady
Believe, we understand.

Try not to walk so proudly
Or be afraid to share your truths
Try offering some transparency
What could you possibly lose?

Aside of unveiling shame of course
Or feeling unfulfilled
We wish you'd let it go girlfriend
Stop being so strong-willed.

We'll extend a hand and help you out
You'll grow from such support
A phone call, an email , a text'll do
Follow up on that 'passing' thought!

She holds her head-up, day to day
Ensuring all is well,
She's become an emblem of strength and power
And she's searching for a soul to tell.
